the relationship wasn’t working.

and so, mutually, you agreed to cut it off.

“it’s for the best,” kaeya smiled, as he took the afternoon off to gather his belongings from your apartment and leave.

kaeya was… involuntarily manipulative. you never wanted to bring up the topic, in fear of his Cavalry Captain title showing its true colors. you were sure he would probably find an excuse anyway.

something along the lines of,

“was i doing that? oh, i apologize. i didn’t realize you were so sensitive.”

or perhaps, even going to the lengths of,

“oh, dear. i’m so sorry, i must’ve wounded you.” as he proceeded to plan out how to do it again, and victimize himself.

and so, you decided to bring up the topic of taking a break, without mentioning his manipulative tendencies.

you thought he would be upset, yet here we was, smiling while walking out the door.

fine. if he was happy, you were free. it was a win-win situation for both of you.

and so, night after night you watched as he drunk his way to happiness at Angel’s Share, Diluc’s frown becoming ever-so-prominent each time he sauntered through the door.

each night, he went home with at least one woman, who would always cockily smirk at you if you happened to be in the streets.

so it surprised you when he showed up at your apartment at midnight one day, tears streaming down his face, no women to be seen in sight.

“[name], please take me back,” he gasped, “i miss you. please.”

you glared at him, closing the door behind you as you stepped into the hallway.

“what exactly lead this reaction on?” you said, staring at his clouded eyes.

“[name], what do you mean? i miss you, please, i still love you.”

you withheld the snort threatening to escape you.

“you miss me?” you laughed, watching the expression on his face turn confused.

“what bullshit.”

kaeya scrunched his nose, eyebrows furrowing. “[name], what do you-“

“what do i mean? please, kaeya.”

“i want you to look me straight in the eyes and tell me you truly love me, and that Diluc wasn’t reminding you that I’m the only one who treated you like a decent human being, although you’re the lying, manipulative snake you are.”

kaeya’s eyes shifted to hurt, gazing at you.

“don’t you dare look at me like that. i’m sure you’re well aware that i see you going home with a different woman every night, and i’m well aware that you manipulated your way through our relationship. don’t think i’m so easily accepting like i used to be.” you glared at him once more, before opening your apartment door, and said,

“have a nice day, mr. alberich.”

before shutting the door on his face.
