Seeing you get hit

this got a lot of attention, so I wrote one for Kaeya - a few more ideas in my head so I’ve added a link to the “master” post if you want to read the others! I’ll update them as I finish :)

Genre: sfw, a bit violent, angry Kaeya**

character x GN reader

Synopsis:

*character* become progressively worried about you not returning back - as the hours tick by, they notice a commotion has started and as they check it out find you in distress. Quickly they head to where you were and, well, their reaction to seeing you being accosted by someone in the middle of the city, let’s just say they took matters into their own hands.

Kaeya

There was a commotion stirring at the knights headquarters. People seemed more spirited than normal. Kaeya, not remotely interested, continued his work until he was inevitably interrupted by one of the knights in training.

“Captain, Kaeya!” the breathless junior shouted from the door to his office.

“Yes?” He wasn’t really in the mood to deal with whatever had riled up the knights, he was irritated by the fact that you hadn’t returned yet from your commissions. He wanted to go with you, but duty called, as it always did.

“There is a situation at the front gate!” He shouted, half expecting the explanation would be enough to raise the calvary caption from his chair.

“It seems there are other knights here capable of attending to the situation,” he replied, returning his attention to his documents.

“But, Captain Kaeya, it’s Y/N,” that caught his attention, “they seem to be in some sort of trouble.”

With that Kaeya was out of his seat, the papers he was reviewing tossed across his desk and chair practically toppled over as he made his way to the front gate.

He didn’t know what he’d come across, but if it had to deal with you he was sure he wouldn’t be prepared no matter what. His anxiety only grew as he saw the crowd of Mondstadt’s citizens surrounding the front gate, one running toward him with worry plastered all over their face.

“Captain, Kaeya!” Sucrose yelled from the bottom of the stairs. “Y/N seems to have gotten into some sort of trouble, I can’t make it closer to help.” She was wringing her hands tightly, her gaze constantly shifting between Kaeya and the source of the commotion.

“Don’t worry, I’ll get this sorted out.” He stated matter of factly, his expressions stiff. He couldn’t let his emotions peak through, no matter what. An emotional person gets others hurt, he reminded himself.

The group of knights made their way down the final stairs toward the front gate, a small, but hopefully intimidating site to see. Kaeya at the front, leading the charge. That’s when he got a clear picture of what was happening. On the other side of the citizen barrier, he could see you in a heated argument with two gentlemen. One was crouched over holding onto his stomach, and the other standing in front of you, his fingers much too close to your face. Even with the knights making their way toward you, no one seemed to pay them any mind. Everyone was still too focused on the altercation before them. Even the knights normally stationed by the gates seemed unable to calm the situation.

“This isn’t good enough!” He heard the man yell. “You said we could get some help here and this is all you can give us?!” He threw something in your face with disdain. Keep your emotions in check, the voice in Kaeya’s head said again. Something drew both of your attention back to the one holding his stomach and Kaeya watched as you tried to rush over to help but was stopped by the shouter. Without warning, he pulled his hand back and struck you so hard across the face that you stumbled to the ground.

In that instant, it was as if the world shifted into winter. Cold air rushed through the citizens standing around the scene, their startled cries muffled by the air pressure. The knights standing next to Kaeya shielded themselves with whatever they could. They knew whatever was going to happen next wasn’t going to be good.

–

Everything felt much colder than it should. The cobblestone below you turned to ice cubes, the once warm wind was chilled and wrapping around you violently. If you weren’t in so much pain from the strike, you’d probably care more about the sudden shift in weather. Instead your attention was drawn to something warm dripping onto your hand. When you checked there was blood running down your fingers.

“Now what do we have here?” you heard the icy voice cut through the sound of your ringing ears. When you looked up and found Kaeya standing in front of you, you understood why it was so cold.

“What the hell,” the man who hit you hissed as he tried to warm himself against the bitter wind. “Who are you?” his voice dripping with venom.

Kaeya didn’t give a response, instead he stood like a statue in between you and the source of your pain. His sword tightly gripped in his hand, you noticed the blade started to freeze.

“Kaeya …” you know things were turning sour quickly. The state Kaeya was in meant he had lost control of his emotions, and you knew you needed to calm him down. The knights had already escorted the citizens a good distance away so it was safer to de-escalate him without the worry of hurting anyone else. Your head pounded as you clambered your way into a standing position. Colorful spots appeared in your vision making it hard to orient yourself properly. With shaky steps you made your way toward the cold figure in front of you, the temperature dropping with every step.

With your clean hand, you reached out toward Kaeya, gingerly tapping your fingertips onto his shoulder.

“Kaeya, it’s okay …” your voice as smooth as honey. He didn’t react. Taking a few more steps, your vision clearer, you walk to the opposite side of his body, making sure to avoid the steel in his hand. When you get a clear view of his face it breaks your heart. His brows are sharply turned down, his usual smile replaced with a scowl. A shiver ran down your spine, and not because of the cold. “It was an accident …” you try to explain, but again, he isn’t listening to you.

Turning your attention to the two men cowering before you. You begin to worry for their safety. How did it come to this? You question thinking back to when you met the two of them on the road. One of them had eaten something poisonous, and after a lot of reassurance you convinced them to follow you to Mondstadt. If you could get them there you’d be able to brew a quick potion to buy the healers in the temple more time to help. However, it seemed everything went wrong as soon as you entered the city gates. Even in the frigid temperature you could see the sicker one drenched in sweat.

“You need to get to the church, now.” You finally command them. “It’s a bit of a walk, but you need to get him help.” You take a step toward the pair, hoping if you move slow enough they will accept your help.

Before you take more than a few steps Kaeya pushes his way past you, his free hand carefully pushing you behind him. “No one is leaving …” his voice is ice cold and in an instant the sword that’s been at his side is pointing at the pair.

“Kaeya! Wait, this is all a misunderstanding!!” You yell, forcing yourself between them again. His eyes connect with yours for the first time. All the nerves in your body are screaming, your heart beating so quickly. Why is he so mad?

When Kaeya’s hand touches your face, you can’t help but flinch. He controls the movement of your head and you can only catch him in your peripherals.

“This cut on your face is a misunderstanding?”

“He didn’t mean anything by it …” you begin to explain before one of the men behind you cuts you off.

“They’re right! It’s their fault they got injured.” Snapping your head at his comment you see the cold tip of Kaeya’s steel only a few inches from the man’s nose.

“You will hold your tongue, or I will cut it off.” you’d never heard this level of loathing drip from the mouth of your beloved knight. How were you going to fix this …

Reaching your hand up to touch his cheek you explain, “listen, they are scared, just like you’re scared.” His deep blue eyes connect with yours. “I found them out there lost, and brought them here to get help. Look at them, Kaeya.” You lead his gaze to the two men.

As you do, you see the sickly one gripping onto the hand of the other. His face pale and eyes pleading. The other’s face is contorted as if battling itself over what expression to show. Not taking his eyes off the sword in front of his face, his hands desperately search for the person next to him.

“You see, they are trying to protect one another.” You go on, your hand still touching the cheek of the Cavalry Captain. “It’s hard to control your emotions when you see the one you love in pain…” As Kaeya looks back to you, he sees your warm smile underneath the thin trail of blood spilling from your cut.

After you worried the world had somehow paused, you let out a sigh of relief as his sword dropped back toward the ground, the chilly air beginning to warm up.

“As strangers in our city you will be under constant guard.” Kaeya, returning to normal, gestured for several of the knights to make their way toward you all. Hurriedly they rushed to your side awaiting orders. “First, escort these two to the church, they are in need of healing. Second, do not let them wander around without an escort, if I see his face I will not be kind. Third,” he looked back to the two men huddled together, “make sure you get what you need before being on your way.”

As the knights assisted the two from the ground, practically carrying the sicker of the two, you were startled by a sweaty hand on your arm. You felt Kaeya tense next to you and placed a reassuring hand on his arm.
“Thank you for your help.” The words came out breathless, “I told him to trust you; I’m sorry he was so violent …” He looked back at his partner. “His love for me can make him blind.” With a smile he looks back at you, and with a few pats on his hand you wish him a swift recovery.

—

After leaving the remaining issues with the junior knights, you find yourself at the Knights of Favonious’s headquarters. Kaeya had left you in his office as he went to find something to clean the cut on your face. Your senses were filled with him as you stood next to his desk. His scent lingered in the air, his hunched over body looking at documents lingered in your memory. You noticed he must have left in a hurry, because his normally organized desk was in disarray.

A soft clunk catches your attention and you find Kaeya walking toward you with his hands full.

“Come here,” he beckons, sitting on the couch. “Let me clean your wound.” You do as requested and sit down next to him. Your leg touches his. In the quiet of his office, he cleans the cut over your brow. The solution makes your nose crinkle.

“I’m sorry …” he says under his breath, if it wasn’t so unbearably quiet you might not have heard him.

“It’s not your fault …”

“I should have gone with you today. If I had this could have been avoided.” he shakes his head as he reaches for a bandage.

“You can’t go with me every time I take commissions, and besides, I’ve returned much worse than this before.”

“Don’t remind me.” He gets up and the once warm spot on your leg feels colder than it has in a long time.

“Wait,” you plead, reaching your hands to grab onto his wrist. “Where are you going?”

“I want to take the supplies back…”

“Do it later, please. I … don’t want you to leave.” you feel embarrassed by how needy you were, but he just laughs. Quickly you both position yourself on the couch so you are pressed up against the back cushions and resting your head on his chest. For a while you lay in comfortable silence, listening to the sound of his breathing.

“Thank you,” he sighs, stroking the back of your head, his heartbeat softly pounding in your ears.

“For what,” you reply, shifting your position to get more comfortable.

“For pulling me back to my senses. If you hadn’t …”
“I know you Kaeya, you wouldn’t have hurt anyone.”

“When you’re involved,” his head bumped against yours making you look up at him, “I’m never in control … and when I saw him hit you … I just … I can’t … “ his face is pained, a mix of fear and disappointment.

Stretching, you place a kiss on his jaw, “No matter what happens,” you say, between gentle kisses, “I will be here to protect you, just like I know you do for me.” His arms tighten around you and you take in a deep breath, the smell of him intoxicating.

“You mean more to me than you know.” you could feel him shift you upward so you were closer to his face.

“Love is a powerful emotion, isn’t it.” With a smile you place a kiss on his lips and for the next few hours you are pinned under the weight of the most popular knight in Mondstadt.

The next few days he helped you with your commissions.
