Kaeya Alberich was a man of many secrets, and his charm was obviously a facade. But it was one he wore so cleverly that you would often forget that he isn’t yours. Not truly. He can never be yours, he can never be anybody - for Kaeya Alberich is at his core, a man who will sell himself and his skills to the highest bidder. The highest bidder just so happened to be an underground organization you had never even heard of, one whose name you didn’t want to remember.

“It wasn’t enough, princess.” He coos into your ear, a dagger made of ice dangerously close to your throat, words dripping with honey and venom. He says it with so much love it could be mistaken for a vow if one didn’t listen to the words.

What wasn’t, Kaeya?” You ask, having already given up trying to pretend that he’ll change his mind. They’ve done things to him, that much is obvious, and they stripped the little humanity he had left. No longer was he the man you slowly grew to love, the man whose kisses you could feel days after he left them. Perhaps that man never existed, perhaps it was all fake just like his exterior. There were no tears shedding from your eyes, just a glare as cold as his vision.

Our love. I wish it was, princess, I truly do. But sometimes, love isn’t enough. No hard feelings, right?” Even at a time like this, he still jokes as if it’s all a game. Maybe his whole life has been a game to him, simply waiting for the end credits to roll. He is both a poison and the remedy.

You spit in his face for simply having the nerve to make a joke at a time like this, and watch as he chuckles. If you squint hard enough, perhaps you could see the hurt in his dull eyes that seem to have no life left in them. But it’s too dark, only a candle illuminating his features, and yet you can still make out the faint outline of his face.

Harsh, but I underst—

You’re right, Kaeya.” You interrupt him, left hand slowly beginning to move towards the dagger you keep in your left pocket. There were warning signs about his behavior that no rose-tinted glasses could obscure, and you felt it best to prepare. The metal of the blade reminds you of where you are and you grip it tighter, likely enough to draw blood.

Right about what?“ He’s still amused, tilting his head and cocking an eyebrow up as if you’ve intrigued him.

Our love. It wasn’t enough.“ You look past his head after you finish speaking and he follows your gaze, curious. A fatal flaw.

With that, you sheath the dagger into his external jugular vein. Enough to make his death quick, but not quick enough to stop him from turning his head to get one last good look at you. You can swear you see a smile begin to form, maybe he’s thanking you.

Kaeya Alberich was a man of many secrets, and one was that he left his heart in the same boat where his father died. And now that same heart would be buried six feet deep, all because your love wasn’t enough.
