the scene: it’s a simple commission; a fatui mage had been sighted, and you and your partner decide to tackle the task together. what you two aren’t aware of, however, is the second mage that decided to warp in as backup.

in the heat of the moment, your partner leaves himself unguarded. as the mage readies her attack, you shove him out of the way, crying out as the electro attack surges through your body.

the mage warps away with a sinister smirk as your partner falls by your side.

— razor

razor’s never felt his heart race as fast as it does when he looks down at your pained expression, eyes wide and scared.

“y/n? hey, y/n!” he calls out, fear striking him as you try your best to keep your eyes open. “stay awake, i can help you,” he pleads, helping you stand and shouldering your weight. he can practically feel the electricity pulsing off your skin, worry flowing through him.

“razor—” you stutter out, but you cut yourself off with a wince, weakening more by each passing second. “i’m okay,” you mumble, your body growing more limp.

razor decides it’s easier for him to just carry you on his back, sprinting with all his might toward monstadt. he hates the city — he hates the crowds, all the noise, the overwhelming smells — but, as much as he hates to admit it, he can’t help you; but other people can.

razor nods to himself, gripping your legs tightly and adjusting your weight on his back. he feels fear trying to take over his senses, doing his best to keep himself in control. he has to — he has to save you.

“i will save you,” he states loudly, his voice wavering. with those words, you let yourself drift to sleep, your body numb.

you wake up to a finger prodding your cheek, slowly blinking your eyes open. razor is staring at you with concerned, nervous eyes.

“you smell better,” he states quietly. “do you … feel better?”

you grin and pull him down for a hug. he stiffens for a split second before melting into your touch, gladly returning the gesture.

“i’m sorry,” he mutters, burying his face in your shoulder. “you hurt because of me.” you shake your head, pulling back to look at him. guilt floods his eyes as he avoids your gaze.

“razor, you saved me,” you reassure, holding a hand to his cheek.

he leans into the touch, finally looking up at you with hopeful eyes. “i did?”

“you did.” he smiles softly.

a loud clang rings from outside the small room you’re in — you realize you’re in monstadt’s small hospital. razor flinches, leaning closer to your body.

“you brought me all the way here?” you question, unable to keep the shock out of your voice. he nods shyly.

“this place is not nice,” he sighs, grasping your hand. “let’s leave. i can hunt for you.” without warning, he lifts you onto his back once more, quickly making his way out of the building. several nurses call out to you, but you simply laugh as razor bursts through the hospital doors and sprints towards monstadt’s exit.

“i protect you now,” he states proudly, turning his head back to give you a smile. “i promise.”

— xiao

xiao is eerily quiet as he picks you up, brow creased and a scowl printed on his lips. you try to ignore the pain searing through you, instead looking up at your lover, pressing a hand to his chest.

“xiao,” you say, voice unusually feeble, “i’ll be okay.” he doesn’t answer you, keeping his gaze away from yours. you grimace, feeling your strength slipping from your body. “it wasn’t your fault—”

“shut up,” he snaps. “save your breath.” no matter how hard he tries, he can’t keep the weakness out of his voice, cursing himself in his head.

“hey. hey.” he reluctantly glances down at you, his heart breaking when he sees how pale you’re getting. “it wasn’t your fault,” you repeat. you see his walls finally crumble, immense guilt filling xiao’s eyes.

“i’m sorry,” he mutters, holding your body closer to his chest. “i’m so sorry i let this happen.”

you shake your head, lips parting to reply to him but finding that your voice is finally gone. the look of worry on his face only grows, wind howling in your ears as xiao seems to fly across the land to save you.

“i can’t believe i let this happen to you.”

your eyes slowly open to the quiet words of your partner. you recognize the room you’re in is part of liyue’s clinic, a place you rarely find yourself in. when you turn to look at xiao, his head is in his hands.

“it’s my duty to protect people,” he says softly, unknowing that you’re awake. “it’s my duty to protect you, and yet, here you are.” he pauses to sigh, lifting his head up to reveal his distraught expression. “who am i if i can’t do what i was destined to do?”

“you’re my boyfriend, silly.” he jumps slightly, looking over to you with wide eyes. “didn’t i already tell you this wasn’t your fault?”

xiao he places his hand over yours. “but—”

“don’t.” he looks at you with sad eyes. you give him a small smile. “blaming yourself won’t do anything. besides,” you cup his cheek, and he perks a brow, “i’d gladly take a hit for you any day.”

“you won’t have to,” he replies, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “i won’t let anything happen to you anymore.”

— venti

venti forces a tight smile as he lifts you, though the distress in his eyes is evident.

“hang on tight, okay? you’re going to be alright,” he says lightly. “i’ll get you help, you will be fine.”

you mutter his name, already losing your grip around his neck. it’s hard to even think properly at this point — the pain hazes your mind, making it hard to focus on anything.

venti shakes his head, quickly adjusting his hold on you. his optimism is fading more by the second, replaced with pure panic. he swallows hard and does his best to ignore the tightness in his chest, focusing more on how he can feel you slipping away from him. he can tell your strength is being drained, and yet there’s nothing he can do but drive his legs to run faster.

he’s never felt so useless before.

you weakly try to reach out to him, but realize the effort is futile when your eyes begin to droop. you see venti’s bright, alarmed eyes look down on you as you give in to the exhaustion dragging your body down.

“y/n? are you awake? how do you feel?”

you wince as you open your eyes, venti’s face inches away from yours.

“hey, venti.” a wide, relieved smile fills his face. he resists the urge to pick you up and spin you around, opting to slowly help you sit up instead.

“we’re back in monstadt,” he explains, keeping a hand on your back to keep you steady. “you were out for an entire day, i thought—“ he stops, glancing away. “i thought i was going to lose you,” he finishes, looking back at you with a smaller, sadder smile.

you pull him in for a hug, relishing the feeling of his familiar arms. “i’m not going anywhere,” you promise softly, feeling him nod against your shoulder.

“i’m sorry,” he whispers. you’ve never heard him this quiet, this guilty. “this happened because of me.”

“what i did was my choice,” you object, closing your eyes. “i would do it again in a heartbeat, too.” he laughs, tugging you down so you two can lay together.

“as if i’ll let anything even come close to you. i’ll be your personal bodyguard from now on.” he pauses before adding, “i suppose that would make me your bodybard, wouldn’t it?”

you snort, a small laugh escaping from your lips. “give me a break, would you?”

he smiles, putting his head in the crook of your neck. “as you wish,” he teases.

— bennett

guilt immediately strikes bennett as he starts to blame himself right away.

“oh no, hey, stay with me! i’ll get you help, i promise,” he says quickly, picking you up and beginning to run. he does his best to push away his emotions to focus more on saving you, heart straining in his chest.

“it’s okay,” you say, voice frail. “bennett, i’ll be okay.”

he wants to believe you, he really does — but it’s hard when a voice in his mind constantly yells at him, telling him he does nothing but bring other people harm.

bennett’s misfortune has driven most people away from him, and he’s terrified you’ll leave him, too. he wouldn’t blame you — despite how much he loves adventuring with you, he knows it would be much safer for you to just ignore his existence.

but bennett wants to be selfish. he doesn’t want you to go, he doesn’t want to be alone again.

“please,” he quietly begs, taking in a shaky breath. “please don’t leave me.”

you feel your own heart break when you hear those words, but you feel yourself losing consciousness as you try to form words to reassure him.

you slowly open your eyes, looking around the room you’re in. you notice right away that bennett is sitting in a chair beside you, his head resting on the bed as he sleeps.

you smile, bringing a hand to his hair and gently combing through it. he leans in to it slightly before opening his own eyes, sitting up as soon as he notices you’re awake.

“oh, i’m so glad you’re okay,” he says, hesitantly reaching over for a hug. you quickly hold him in your arms, his warmth making you feel all the more relaxed.

bennet feels tears pricking his eyes when he pulls back, aiming his gaze toward his lap. “maybe it’s best if you don’t adventure with me anymore, y/n,” he sighs, although it pained him to say those words. “stuff like this will keep happening, and i don’t want to keep seeing you get hurt because of me—“

“bennet,” you interrupt, “i would never leave you like that. i love exploring with you, and i love being with you.” he looks up, smiling as he quickly wipes his eyes.

“really? you promise?” you return the smile, pulling him in for another hug.

“i promise.”
