Mercenary!reader headcanons, it’s the only thing that cures my boredom during school now. btw would yall be interested in other character/fandom headcanons? or perhaps a series/fanfiction?
- so, as a mercenary, the reader receives missions from all over Teyvat, much to Kaeya’s dismay
- so she never spends much time in the same place, she has acquaintances that will provide her with shelter during her stay, or she’ll camp outside
- the city that she’s spent the most time in is Mondstadt, because of Kaeya waiting there for her return
- now, Kaeya dislikes his job (you can tell as much from the webtoon), so without his (s/o) to distract him he has no other choice than to comply with Jean’s wishes and actually work, either that or he lingers around the city
- typically, when she comes home from a mission, Kaeya is there to welcome her at the gates and escort her around, helping her catch up on whats new (sometimes tries to go in for a hug or kiss but is always stopped by her hand or threatened by loss of a limb)
- despite the busy person she’s known as, she will pass out anytime she is allowed to
- it is said that you truly trust someone when you sleep with them (non-sexually), so when felt a weight on his shoulder as he was complaining about his duties as Calvary Captain, he was touched
- she tends to sleep wherever she can when she’s off work, so you may find her at the top of the Knight of Favonius Headquarters or cradled by the branches of the huge tree in Windrise
- Kaeya also happens to not have any work when (s/o) comes back, as Jean always seems to do most of it, so he often has to look around Mondstadt for hours when he’s not at the gates to welcome her return
- in the end, when he comes home without her, she’s always somehow already in bed as if he hadn’t checked his flat already (which he has multiple times)
- When she came home after a particularly long mission and launched herself to him, he was concerned more than he was overjoyed
- she wasn’t one to initiate most of the time, so what was different
- she was really just suffering from Kaeya withdrawals and missed him a lot, which she would never admit aloud
- in the end, Kaeya is always there to welcome his (s/o) home, whether it takes him the entire day to find her or if he’s been with her since the gates, it all ends the same, a good sleep in each other’s embrace
