CHILDE X FM Reader | Anthology

Childe

  • When Childe learned you specialize as a mechanic, he was intrigued. There weren’t many people, at least that he knew of, who worked on the and understood the inner workings of the ruin guards
  • In fact, once the Fatui learned about your skill-set, they made it a point to win you over. If they could get someone like you on their side, well, who knows how the tables would turn in their favor
  • You had turned all other agents away, either with your words or your mechanics - but for some reason, Childe was always someone you’d let in

“What do I need to do to get you to reconsider?” He watched as you worked underneath a large contraption, your back against some strange cart which helped you slide around on the floor. You had been working like this for some time, even as you continue to hold a conversation with him.

“I don’t need any convincing, I’ve already told you I’m not interested.” The sound of your wrench knocking against metal as you worked your way inside of the machine had started to annoy him. He wanted your full attention but knew he needed to be thoughtful about his actions.

“It’s a pretty sweet deal, comrade. You’re missing out.”

You laughed, the sound pleasant in his ears, “I don’t think I am.”

You continued to give him only half of your attention so, to stay his boredom, he picked up one of the strange items littered around your workshop and turned it over in his hand. He had no idea what it was, what is was supposed to do, what it went to? In? Around? Whatever it was, it left black smudges on his fingers and he dropped it back onto the table before dusting off his hands.

  • He found your talents super impressive - once, he followed you to an old ruin guard graveyard and watched how you climbed around and pulled out different parts of its structure - how your face lit up at each different contraption and item
  • You had tried to explain how it all worked, the way each gear supported and moved another, the way the machines spoke in their own ways - he really did find your knowledge and enjoyment impressive
  • Still - he has a job to do and he’s going to see it through

“Dang it.” You cursed. A sharp ringing sound tore him from his thoughts as it repeatedly bounce against the hard floor and he watched as your body twisted, the cart under you slipped further beneath the contraption.

“What are you working on under here?” He put his foot on the corner of the cart and pulled you back until you were completely visible and laughed at your protest.

“Woah! Hey!” You shifted to your back and shot him a quizzical look. He couldn’t help but notice the smudges against your cheek; even with the dirt there he couldn’t deny you were attractive. “What?”

“What are you working on?”

“I’m trying to figure out why every time I insert the power supply the energy just escapes instead of powers it up. I’m sure I missed something, but I can’t think because someone keeps asking me questions.” You tilt your head and squint your eyes at him before attempting to slide back, he stops you of course, pulling you further away from your work and lifting you onto your feet.

“If you would give me the answer I want, I’d leave you alone.” He sits you in a chair and leans close to your face, the smell of oil and lavender wafting off of your hair.

“Childe,” You begin, pushing him back, “you’ve heard my reason. The Fatui, I’m sure, can find plenty of other people to use, but I’m not one of them.” You stood up and walked over to the small basin of water, grabbing the rag off the back of the mirror and tossing it over your shoulder as you began to clean your hands. When you moved to clean your face, dipping the rag in the cool water and ringing it out, Childe made his way to you and took the rag in his own.

“You know, I’m not used to being told no.” He explained as he wiped your face with the cloth, dragging it down your cheek and along your jaw until it landed underneath your chin.

“… I’m sorry. I just don’t …” He ran his finger over your lips and stopped the words in your mouth.

“Let’s call it a day for now. Maybe tomorrow you’ll change your mind.” His hands dropped to his sides and he placed the cloth back onto the table before walking toward the door.

“I don’t think I will …”

“Sleep on it.” He waved and stepped out into the fresh air.

  • He was determined to win you over. Not just your skills and what they could bring to the organization, but also you personally - he wanted to win you over for himself

  • It became a regular thing, him visiting you, and you were starting to think it wasn’t just to beg you to join the Fatui, but maybe, just maybe it was to see you
