Kaeya X Reader: Stormy Minds

Spoiler warning for Kaeya’s and Diluc’s past and the manga. Proceed at your own risk.

His voice was husky when you opened the door to his knocks.
The long, dark blue hair was sticking on his chest, eyes, nose and cheeks covered in a cold, sickly red as he looked down to you tiredly.
“Hey Y/N.”
It took you a while to reply, as you were distracted by the man’s worrysome looks. Your gaze wandered around restlessly, trying to find the cause of his visit—the cause of this.
You had never seen Mondstadt’s cavalry captain being such a mess; soakingly wet, looking like he had cried.
Of course, worry would pay a visit to your mind.
“Hello, Captain Kaeya”, you finally replied, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
“I would like to come in, if you don’t mind.”
You nodded, went aside.
He entranced, leaving his shoes on your rug.
And then it was silence that wrapped itself around the two of you.
Just that this silence was fairly enjoyable.
“I was just about to go to bed, you know”, you said, “but I’m glad you came nonetheless.“
He nodded, looking around.
“You need a towel?”
“Nah, I’d rather have a hug or something. I don’t know, Y/N. I really don’t.”
He was so vulnerable this evening. As if all the ice had melted, leaving a mushy little rest.
“Hey, no, what’s bothering—”
Even the mushy little rest was cold. Horribly cold.
Your clothes were soaked with water faster than you could return this surprise hug and as the two of you got closer, you were able to see a certain round gem sparkling in his pocket.
A vision.
A cryo vision.
You chuckled bitterly. It fit. It fit so well.
His words were as soft and smooth as snow, but that was all just a mask as inscrutable as ice. Yet, someone had melted all of it.
To Kaeya’s relief, you returned the hug.
You knew that fire was deadly to ice. He needed this, all of it, right now.
“You know”, he started out, just to freeze short after, waiting for the soft snow to come back.
“You can tell me what bothers you, Kaeya.”
Carefully, you loosened the hug and pressed his head against your chest, caressing his hair gently, playing with it in your fingers, even.
“I would like to. But I suppose that I shouldn’t, not now, Y/N.”, he mumbled, sinking deeper into your sternum.
He had never been this touchy before, you thought to yourself.
“Just… what makes you feel this way?”
“Crepus, he died. Diluc and me have been drawing blades. I don’t know, it feels like a storm.”
A blizzard, you suppose.
Sharp, icy edges storming into him, leaving many small cuts wherever they touch him.
But you were right, someone melted his mask. Diluc.
“Oh”, was all that escaped your throat, your busy mind.
Suddenly, Kaeya got up, leaving you with an empty, lonely feel.
“Don’t worry about it, Y/N. Though I have to admit, your hugs are quite energy recharging.”
His flirty grin returned.
And with that, you felt something round in your palm, even light shined through the gaps between your fingers.
“I suppose this night we will remember for a while.”

A/N: One of my first attempts in writing in English (I’m not a native English speaker), so I hope the grammar is endurable. Kaeya got his vision in the fight with Diluc, of course, I just thought that he might have stuffed it into his pocket as he was in a rush.
I prefer writing in my native language a bit, I think; at least I can be sure that what I write is correct.
Anyways, I wish you all the best and hope that this was okay.
