Idk if this is a HC or a theory but consider:
Klee is a knight (mostly) in name only. All the other knights we’ve met have some sort of role
- Jean: Acting Grandmaster
- Kaeya: Cavalry Captain
- Albedo: Chief Alchemist
- Eula: Captain of Reconnaissance Company
- Amber: Outrider
Meanwhile Klee is just the “Spark Knight.” Also Klee “asking for time off” really felt more like asking your parents for permission to go out than like an actual leave from work
What if they “recruited” Klee mostly to make sure she doesn’t get into too much trouble given her vision and penchant for bombs
She’s still very much a kid, and it’s already established that she tends to do what she wants. Making her a knight and saying she has to ask for time off if she wants to wander appeals to that specific type of child logic and probably makes it easier to keep her and everyone else safe
