Familiar Faces

Familiar Faces

||Notes||: Fanfiction time bitchesssssss- This shit is probably going to be the worst fanfic in the world as alas, I’m terrible at writing. This might or will become a series depending if I’m motivated enough. If I drop it? Feel free to use the concept and make something better. I also am using Lumine as the protag instead of our wonderful canon protagonist Aether for the sake of I have no clue.

||Concept||: Lumine and Aether Are going to leave Teyvat, but Lumine can’t find herself to just leave everything behind.

•————————•

This was it. It was all over. Lumine had finally gotten her brother back, and managed to confront the god from the beginning of their journey. It was time to leave, yet she didn’t want to. It was inevitable, she planned on leaving once she found her brother yet she didn’t expect to get so attached to the world. All the battles, all the friendships, all the adventures, everything was going to be gone in a flash once she and Aether were ready to go.

She didn’t even say goodbye to a single person, maybe only Paimon who cried but left to go stay in Mondstat and inform them of her departure. It felt… surreal.

“Hey, let’s go now.” Aether says, looking at his sister. She looked back at him, with blank eyes.

Aether sighs at this, for him, it wasn’t a big deal when it came to leaving. He had been on the “evil” side, not making any important friends during the time in Teyvat. But he understood Lumine’s pain. Every other time they travelled through worlds, they had made sure not to get too attached, but that was when they stayed for only what’s equal to a day or so. It’s been so long in Teyvat, probably as long or even longer as their stay in a bunch of other worlds combined.

Lumine frowned but nods. It was time. “Alright, we’re leaving.” She said as she closed her eyes, ready for the feeling of transportation. From the siblings burst a bright light, rivalling that of a bright star in a cloudless night.

Instead of thinking about where they would land next, all Lumine could think about was everyone she met, her allies, acquaintances and even her enemies. She remembered how Amber first jumped to meet her, how she taught the dragon, how she watched as Venti had his gnosis taken away. She remembered the treacherous mountains of Liyue, how she had somehow found herself working with a Fatui, how she had watched yet another god have their gnosis taken, and so on so forth.

For a split second all feeling left from her body, as if she were in or was an endless void. The girl had long forgotten the feeling of world travel, to the point she was almost surprised by it.

The light was gone, she opened her eyes to take in where she and her brother had appeared. It was very different from the fantasy world they were just in, it was a modern world now, maybe even slightly futuristic or sci-fi like.

“It feels so.. weird.” Lumine whispered, eyes examining her surroundings.

“You can say that again.” Aether laughed quietly.

It wasn’t the sudden era change or the long awaited feeling of world travel that disoriented Lumine however, it was the clinging guilt of leaving everyone behind. It just kept repeating. A snap of fingers brought her back to reality, Aether’s slightly concerned yet annoyed face coming into focus. “Lumine, it’s done. We’ve left Teyvat. Don’t dwell on it okay?”

Lumine furrowed her eyebrows, that was easier said than done, but he was right. “Fine. I’ll try.”

Silence then stirred between them, the sound of birds and cars whirring in the background. It was awkward to say the least, having been apart for so long it was almost as if they were strangers to each other. “So… what now?” Lumine asked.

Just as Aether was about to respond, someone running crashed into Lumine, sending a piece of toast flying in the air, a yelp from both of them, and a startled Aether who watched his sister just get ultimately rammed by a person.

The blond was quick to recover, she hadn’t been beaten up by Hilichurls for nothing. A hand was quick to snatch the flying food before it had made contact with the ground. “Ahhhhh, sorry about that…” Laughed the person. Lumine readied a glare but instead put on a face of surprise.

The person gasped as they looked at one of those street posts with a clock. “Oh! I’m going to be late! Sorry again!” They then ran off, placing the toast back in their mouth, bunny ear shaped headband flailing in the wind.

Lumine was reaching out to the person, mind jumbled with confusion while Aether watched her with a similar look. She managed to get out of her stunned trance, muttering quietly, “Amber?..”
