SO LIKE, I was brainstorming and decided, “What if Paimon calls her, Xiao?” because I took Chinese a while back, and I remembered that xiao means small, and I’m just  “that’d be a fucking riot!!”

AND THEN MY GIRLFRIEND IMMEDIATELY INFORMS ME

and then I just go

BUT THEN I LOOKED UP THE CHARACTERS AND hbfkjdhbklnhgjm

Xiao’s name is written as 魈 Xiāo

while the Xiao I want to call my Traveler is written as  小  xiăo

which DOES have a different sound. Like, I can’t explain it, but I KNOW that the a has a different tone (four tone marks that determine a pitch, this is what makes Chinese a difficult language to speak because you NEED to get the proper tonal  pronunciation right because some words ONLY differ by tone)

(anyways don’t look to me as someone who’s completely fluent, all I have is a B from my class, as well as my text books and work book that I had to buy for it)

Anyways, moving on from that, the joke is that Paimon, who is SUPER TINY, is calling the Traveler THAT. And the Traveler just accepts it.

BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T KNOW BETTER LMAOO. She learned the language from Paimon, and I kinda hc since the game was originally Chinese, that that’s the main language (the common of sorts)

My Traveler should get another name (again, probably Venti, who’s Chinese name, btw, is 温迪 Wēndí - very cute, no?), but Paimon will just likely add the “xiăo” to her name.

Listen, she needs her form of payback for constantly getting threatened with being eaten as food. And what better way than to play up tiny Traveler?

(it’s so funny, because usually, I’m the one who tweak’s a character’s height for comedy and umu height jokes, BUT THIS ONE IS ALREADY LIKE THAT, LMAOOO)
