If the real world is Among Us, the LGBTQ+ community members are the imposters.

If the real world is Among Us, the LGBTQ+ community members are the imposters.

Proof of concept:

  • Queer people fake tasks to blend in. How often do they pretend to be cishets just to not get hate crimed? Think: faking sexual attraction, pretending to have crushes, going by incorrect pronouns, etc.
  • Cishets call meetings to get rid of queer people. How many anti-LGBTQ+ laws are there? How many bills against transitioning and marriage rights have there been? Cishets throw sus on people for being “gay” using it like an insult.
  • LGBTQ+ people are known for being able to hide in underground communities where they can safely have their relationships- like venting. All throughout history, we see queer people coming together, with code words and symbols. They strategize together and form secret team ups to hide their real identities from the world.
  • Just like the various maps, all countries have different obstacles and difficultly levels to not get caught as imposter. With varying laws, it is difficult to navigate when it’s safe to be openly queer and when to start faking crewmate. Some countries are more accepting than others.
  • Queer people try not to get caught unless they find an ally. Outing someone could have terrible consequences, but sometimes the game is more fun if you find a buddy who knows your secret and helps you get away with it. Allies make the game more fun, but they can be a risk sometimes.
  • When the crewmates lose, they tend to get very upset and kick the winners from the game. We see all kinds of violence against queer people, in some countries more than others. Cishets dont always show good sportsmanship when queer people get rights, like getting married or be able to medically transition.
  • Some cishets want to eject queer people to hell. This makes them button happy. This calls a lot of unnecessary meetings where they throw sus without evidence and attack anyone who acts differently them themselves. These toxic players are usually excused by the other crewmates because “they just don’t know better.” Whether it’s because they’re young, or were raised with questionable values, they usually don’t get ejected. It makes the game less fun.
  • Queer people can experience imposter syndrome. It’s so easy to question if you really are queer or just doing it for attention. Imposter syndrome sucks, but I promise you, you are valid. You are real. Life is complicated, and you’re allowed to change your mind later, but that doesn’t make you any less valid right now.
  • Be gay do crime. It’s in the handbook.
