Lady Dimitrescu and Hesienberg: what could’ve been character foils

ok so this will come out eventually as our Resident Evil Village play through continues, but i have a lot of Thoughts about LadyD and Dollar Store Van Helsing that i want to share.

they’re character foils

let’s break down what that means! (spoilers below!)

so in the first major cutscene of RE8 where Ethan gets captured by Heisengerg and we meet all the Lords, Mother Miranda, and get the scene sort of. but the one thing that stuck out to me the most was the antagonism between Lady D and Heisenbro

Lady D is shown to be perfection, really. she is dressed the nicest. she’s a tall vampire goddess, has been given three daughters, and a spectacular castle to live out of. let’s look at what Heisenberg got

he’s sequestered himself to his factory. deep in the ground with his monstrous creations. nothing that can speak to him. an abomination locked in the basement that not even he can control. it’s almost like everything he touches he fucks up whereas what Lady D gets is three daughters who are almost as ‘human’ as she is. Heisenberg gets nothing of this. and that’s not also to mention the favouritism Mother Miranda seems to treat the lords with and the hatred Heisenberg harbours for her because of this

as we learn with Heisenberg, he hates Mother Miranda. hates what she made him into. this is utterly contrasted by Lady D who seems to love the body she’s in. how she’s only shown her true form to Miranda. Lady D lives in luxury. Heisenberg lives in squalor. maybe self imposed. but maybe because he was never given the trust Lady D seemed to have with Miranda.

Lady D wants to find and kill Ethan for Miranda. Heisenberg wants to team up with him in order to kill her.

they are two sides of the same coin.

and i would’ve LOVED to see this antagonism played up more between the two. build up the characters a bit more. show the strife between the lords. i just hate that Lady Dimitresu was wasted so early in the game because i would’ve LOVED to have more interactions between her and Heisenberg.
