Mmm heads up for spoilers in this headcanon?? It’s got a mix of lore found in game and follows the canon plot arc of the Dimitrescu family with mentions of the boss fight with Alcina towards the end so skip this if you want to avoid that!

So I have to imagine that Alcina was kinda lonely? The notes in game mention she’s not from the village and she had a blood disease which I headcanon as hemophilia; at the time she would have been human, that was like a death sentence almost: one wrong hit and you’re dead. Consequently, I feel like she was probably sheltered and didn’t have too many friends.

Then when she meets Miranda eventually she infects her with the virus and Alcina thinks she and Miranda have a genuine bond, but Miranda doesn’t seem to give a shit about her? Miranda just gives Alcina things to placate her, but only contacts her when she needs her to do something for her. She’s just another failed virus experiment to her. So when Miranda gives her this new experiment to monitor she agrees, but then that experiment turns into the girls and in Alcina’s journal, she says they instantly look at her like newborns would and she also feels connected to them immediately. She named them, instantly took them in, keeps them safe, and presumably teaches them everything they know about their current lives. Her daughters’ portrait is the painting in the entryway of the castle, not hers. You have to really search to find her own picture, but her daughters are prominently displayed. She even has a permanent part of her outfit (the three roses) dedicated to making sure her daughters are represented and know they’re loved and they’re most likely the first and only genuine connections Alcina’s ever had. So then of course she grows more and more mad over the course of the castle section because yeah Ethan’s wrecking her house, but also he’s killing her family. I saw someone a few days ago say that in her boss fight, Alcina most likely lets Ethan’s shots wound her because technically she can heal external injuries quickly and regenerate and I have to agree. I don’t think she cared about helping Miranda towards the end, but more so was genuinely mourning the loss of her family because even if she did kill Ethan, Miranda wouldn’t acknowledge her nor would she get her girls back so what’s the point in living in a big lonely castle again.
