I’ve committed more crimes. I wanted to add this to Fractions when I wrote it in the first place but there wasn’t a good place for it (it was too explicit). So now it is it’s own short story and it is…something that’s for sure.

Easily Distracted

Alcina Dimitrescu had not prepared for this day at all and is honestly lost without her little ones. Watching your kids grow up can be hard. Especially when they are going out on their own for the first time. But thankfully she has her doting human to provide some welcome distraction while they are away.

There are many places you figured you would end up when you moved out here but life is full of surprises. Some of those surprises include arguing with a teenager at 10 o’clock at night.

“There’s fruit on it.” Cassandra makes a mildly disgusted face.

“Oh my god just try it.” You groan, running a hand over your face as her sisters giggle in the background.

“Again, there. Is. Fruit. On. It.” She says again, punctuating each word.

“It’s pineapple for crying out loud!” You toss your hands up, fighting back a smile.

“On a pizza!” She tosses her hands up too as if you’re being insane.

This standoff has been going on for what feels like thirty minutes. Daniela and Bela had both tried it and enjoyed the odd combination of flavors but Cassandra refused to even look at it.

“Cass, just try it. It’s pretty good.” Bela offers.

“You think artichokes taste good so I don’t really trust your taste buds.” She replies and Bela rolls her eyes.

“One bite.” You ask once more and she glares at you before begrudgingly taking the slice from your hand. You all watch eagerly as she hesitantly takes a bite.

“What do you think?” Daniela asks excitedly.

“Give her a chance to chew.” You laugh. She sits back against the couch impatiently while Cassandra debates the flavor combination.

“It’s…not bad.” Her admission is barely audible as she grumbles it out.

“Thank you for trying it, I’m glad you like it.” You smile at her and she sticks her tongue out at you before taking another bite. The movie you all were watching comes to an end an hour later and you stretch your arms over your head.

“Alright you three, these old bones are tired. I’m heading to bed, don’t stay up too late. You need to be up by 10 tomorrow.”

“You’re not even that old?” Bela chuckles. “But we’ll be up for sure.” Her eyes are practically sparkling with excitement. Tomorrow was going to be their first ever sleep over. The girls hadn’t had close friends most of elementary school but once they started their first year of high-school, they slowly started to gather a small friend group.
