Resident Evil Village is multiple horror stories in one, which is its strength

The 4 Lords of The Village, & Miranda all represent a different type of horror story.

Mind you, they’re all Gothic Horror.

Lady Dimitrescu & her daughters= Old School Horror (Dracula, Carmilla, ahem, RE2, RE3, & RE7)

Donna Beneviento & Angie= Psychological & Paranormal Horror, & Killer Dolls (Amnesia: The Dark Descent, PT, Dead Silence, Night of the Living Dummy by R.L. Stine, Child’s Play, Annabelle, that creepy doll from Deep Red)

Salvatore Moreau = Body Horror (The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells, The Shadow Over Innsmouth & The Dunwich Horror by  H.P. Lovecraft, The Creature From The Black Lagoon)

Karl Heisenberg = Mad Science Body Horror (Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Re-Animator by H.P. Lovecraft, previous RE games, Tetsuo The Iron Man, 1980s David Cronenberg films)

Mother Miranda = Witch Horror & Paranoia (The Thing 1982, Mama, Silent Hill, Suspiria, Coraline by Neil Gaiman— & a little bit of Pet Sematary by Stephen King)

…Is it false of me to classify Miranda’s type of horror as quasi-demonic? Perhaps not. Look around the Village at the altered Catholic artwork depicting her as an ersatz Saint, or an angel. She’s certainly neither.

Like Heisenberg, she’s into Mad Science, when you find her lab late in the game.
