So I finished village last night and here are some thoughts I’ve had. Spoilers ahead.

  1. Ok bioshockishness was off the charts on this one like it felt very similar in that regard but with fewer levels and way more condensed and like honestly this is one of my favorite games now because I really haven’t gotten this pretty specific vibe since bs2 or even infinite which was really cool and good I enjoy this kind of gameplay style a lot and the RE monsters feel very daunting and I never have enough bullets and it just felt pretty good- a little stressful- but good.
  2. Weird take but honestly I think this would’ve been a better game if it was a little more removed from the main RE franchise. Like… IDK shit about RE to begin with so I might be a little biased in this lean- but there were parts of the game that distinctly didn’t fit with the classic gothic lit romp that the game built up with most of the aesthetics and character designs and it made me end up not giving much of a shit about chris and ethan and mia and whoever the fuck else got involved that are apparently recurring characters. Like I give a shit about Lady D and Heisenberg and Donna and even Moreau so infinitely more than I do the people I was really supposed to be “saving” and really that is kindof unfortunate from a storytelling perspective especially since I’m forced to kill them all. The only exception to this is Baby Rose because father daughter shit is always a prime game motivator but like??? I don’t care about chris why is he even here and why do I get to play as him for five fucking seconds arbitrarily??? If you’re gonna have characters here have them be deeply involved or get the fuck out???? and frankly I don’t want any of them I came here for the four lords only and I want to save them from Miranda just as much if not more than Rose. Like DLC better give me alt ending or so help me tbh. I cannot tell you how deeply I hated the end of heisenberg’s level and most of the shit that came after it. Could’ve been done so much better.
  3. No like for real is this just a capcom formula at work??? the ending of this game is crappy and miranda is weak as shit (or the sniper rifle is op but honestly either way)
  4. No ok but I do have to scream about how much I, a gothic lit connoisseur, enjoy the aesthetics of this game. Like Heisenberg’s Frankenstein influence and Dimitrescu’s Dracula shit and the overall Poe-ish atmosphere (a lot of the horror elements remind me of shit like the pit and the pendulum and a cask of amontillado other poe stories I’ve always thought would translate REALLY well to to horror video games) that really fucking make the majority of the game experience trully exceptional and vibe-worthy. Like really I can’t express how important it is to me (perhaps Heisenberg’s could’ve been done a little better but you know what still good still a cool daddy but like… Lady D is kindof a cut above in this aspect) and if I have a complaint it’s that I want so much more of it. I cannot get enough of it in fact. I’m going in for a re-play tonight because I miss the vibe so much.
