Today’s daily reminder is that Diluc is the older brother. We don’t know by how much, but he’s refered to as Kaeya’s older brother in several instances.

Some people have pointed this out in the Chinese translation, but I’m gonna give some Japanese translation trivia instead.

I read Kaeya’s Story in Japanese yesterday looking for how he refers to Diluc. In Japanese, just like in Chinese, there’s a distinction on how you say older or younger brother:

兄 (ani) meaning “older brother”

弟 (otouto) meaning “younger brother”

And the combination of the two:

 兄弟 (kyoudai) meaning “sibling(s)”

Since Diluc and Kaeya are about the same age, I always thought that they called each other 兄弟 because it’s neutral, like they never decided which of them was the older one. But to my surprise, there are at least two instances in which Kaeya refers to Diluc as his older brother.

First, in “It has been a long time since he last called Diluc Ragnvindr ‘brother’”, it uses 養兄 meaning “adoptive older brother”, though it can be read as just “older brother”.

And then, in the part “But now, for the first time ever, he was facing his brother as his true self.”, here it uses 養兄 again.

Diluc was born in April and Kaeya in November so it may just be those 7 months but they take it into account. Canonically, we know that Diluc is around 22 right now, which means that Kaeya must be 21 or so.

If anyone is interested in checking it out for themselves without having to put the in-game text in Japanese, you can watch it in this video, which is also narrated:
