Prince’s album 1999 came out on October 27, 1982. I remember thinking when it was released that the year1999 was so far away. Now it’s 2022 and most of the students at the university where I work were not even alive in 1999.

Back in the 1980′s, we were so afraid that we would have a nuclear apocalypse around the year 2000–and Prince’s title track song 1999 reflected that fear. 

We managed to avoid a nuclear catastrophe. But back in the late 20th century we never expected that by the year 2022, we would be in the middle of a global pandemic 😱 and we would be destroying the planet not with nuclear bombs but with fossil fuels. 🤦🏻‍♀️
