Also, I’m very sorry if this is like super cringy because I have no idea what it’s like to confess to someone and if I did, I would probably die of embarrassment right then and there haha. I hope you enjoy! Also, Kaeya has a cameo in Diluc’s part, but they’re not siblings – just a head’s up! (He’s also portrayed as a meanie, but I promise I love Kaeya with all my heart and don’t actually see him as being like that). You can find part one to this here! (fingers crossed that the link works)

BTW: thank you guys for the love you showed on part one!! i’m so happy you all seemed to like it <33

Aether:

  • Sister Lumine for the win!
  • It was obvious from her twin’s flushed face every time she mentioned him potentially having a crush on you that she was correct on her assumptions.
  • And as much as Lumine wanted to see her brother squirm as she threatened to tell you, their best friend, his secret, she was also his sweet sister!
  • Of course, she wouldn’t have been like this is she didn’t think you also had feelings for him – something you had hidden quite well from her (which lowkey offended her like omg how could you not tell her)
  • Thus, Lumine had to set aside her title as sister and best friend and pick up a new one – wing-woman
  • While she just let her brother suffer, unfortunately, she was doing everything she could to pry the truth out of you.
  • “Maybe this is my fault, for making fun of your last crush in middle school on that nerd, but we never really have ‘girl talk,’ ya know?” she asked you one day at lunch when it was just you and her, since Aether was at a meeting with the Student Council.
  • “What do you mean?” you asked, peering at her as you were opening up your salad bowl.

If this was a TV show, Lumine would have looked into the camera with a sly smile before turning her attention back to you. “Oh, you know. Like, is there anyone you have a crush on? Or maybe you just find them cute or something?”

You shrugged, but Lumine noticed you looked off to the side – something you had done ever since you were little whenever you were trying to hide something. “I don’t think so,” you answered. “What about you?”

“This isn’t about me,” she quickly said, but she remembered that she was trying to earn trust (which she should already have, but apparently you were too secretive). “But, if you wanted to know, I think that ginger from PE is super cute. Definitely husband material, if you ask me.”

Your eyes widened and a shocked laugh escaped from your lips. “Ajax? Are you kidding? He literally ran me over when were playing hockey, how could like him when he quite literally squashed me?”

“But, he told you sorry and hugged you right after,” Lumine noted, giggling as she remember how red your face got when he hugged you from behind as an apology. “That’s beside the point, though. I’ve told you who I like, so you should at least give me hint about who you like.”

“I told you, I don’t like anyone.” You shoveled a bite of your salad into your mouth to try to avoid answering any more of her nosy questions.

“Huh,” Lumine hummed. She sighed a bit dramatically before slumping onto the table. “I thought you trusted me more than this, Y/N. I’ve known you since diapers – just give me a tiny hint, please? You don’t even have to tell me their name, if you don’t want to. Just a teensy, tiny hint.”

She watched as you took a couple more bites, as if you were thinking long and hard about admitting to what she already knew or just leaving her in the dark. Finally, you sat your fork down and turned to her. “You can’t tell anyone.”

Before either of you could say anything else, Lumine grabbed your pinky with hers. “I would never. You know that.”

“Yeah, but you might be tempted,” you sighed. “Fine. I may have a tiny crush on-”

“Hey! The meeting ended earlier than expected so I can join you two before we go back to class!” Aether slid into the seat across from you. His face was bright and cheerful but his smile drooped a little when he saw you and his sister’s pinkies latched to each other’s. “You’re telling secrets without me?”

“Aether,” you murmured. Of course, the boy just took it as a greeting and grinned at the mention of his name, but Lumine just about ascended to Celestia right then and there. She had finally gotten you to admit to it and now, the real work started.

  • It seemed like every day you were bombarded by her, telling you to just let him know how you feel.
  • “How bad could it be? Just tell him!”
  • Uh-huh, sure. Easy for her to say, right?
  • You don’t just tell someone you like them, especially your best friend.
  • Especially your best friend that you’ve known since you were just a basically an hour old.
  • You tried to explain this to Lumine, adding that if it went wrong, you might lose one of the most important people in your life.
  • She’d always dismiss your worries, though, explaining that you still had her and if Aether did something stupid in response to your confession, she’d knock some sense into him.
  • This didn’t really make you feel any better because even she was hinting that things could go wrong if you told him how you really felt, but she couldn’t just blow her twin’s cover!
  • So whenever you asked about admitting to Aether how you felt, she’d help you without telling you outright that he felt the same and would absolutely love it if he knew you reciprocated his feelings.
  • “He won’t be mad! You know he’s not like that!”
  • “He’s known you for forever, he’s not going to drop you just like that.”
  • “Who knows? Maybe he feels the same way and you’re just overthinking things. You never know unless you tell him!”
  • At this point, you couldn’t tell if her help was actually helping you for scaring you into eternal silence.
  • Meanwhile on Aether’s side of things, Lumine would be doing the exact same thing.
  • “You two would be such a cute couple! You have to let her know how you feel or else she might uh… date that nerd she liked in middle school instead! You can’t pass this opportunity up!”
  • “Prom is literally right around the corner, Aether! You could ask her to go with you and then confess during a slow dance. She couldn’t say no, then, right?”
  • “You don’t know that she doesn’t like back for sure! And even if she doesn’t, you could still be besties!”
  • Lumine was really trying her hardest to get you two together and it was driving her insane at this point.
  • Whenever you three would go somewhere, she’d purposely leave early so you two would be stuck with each other.
  • She even said that she didn’t want to sit with you two at the movies because you two always sat in the back and she couldn’t see the screen from there so she sat in the front the whole time.
  • Honestly, she would turn back every now and then and hope to see you two making out like in the movies but you were both just watching the movie like normal people.
  • This whole situation was probably more stressful to her than to either of you. Sometimes she just wanted to lock you both in a room and force you to confess or else you weren’t leaving.
  • Like an escape room, but you have to confess your love to each other before you can leave instead of finding a key.
  • Her prayers were answered in due time, though.
  • Though Lumine’s prom idea sounded nice, it wasn’t close enough apparently because you beat Aether to the punch.

You piled all your belongings into Aether’s backseat before hopping in. It was the Friday before spring break and Lumine had already left, having scheduled a weekend full of fun activities with some her volleyball friends since this would be their last spring break together. Aether was driving you two home as usual, ready for a well-earned break from school.

“Hey, Aether, can I ask you something?” you asked, reaching forward to turn the volume of the radio down just a smidge. Your heartbeat was thumping in your ears and you could feel your cheeks getting hot from nerves.

“Always,” he answered, glancing over at you with a cute smile.

You fidgeted with your fingers, unsure on where to start. “Well, uh, I thought I should tell you before I absolutely lose my mind due to your sister’s constant bugging.” You paused, looking up to see Aether gazing at you already. You couldn’t read his expression, so you turned to the window, scared that you were about to make a big mistake. “I… I really like you, Aether. And I have for a while now, but I didn’t want to say anything in case it ruined our friendship.” You took a deep breath, ready to explain yourself and how you understood if he was upset with you, but before you could you heard him chuckle.

“Really?” he asked, his voice a little higher than normal. It sounded like he was excited, so you looked back at him to see him smiling, his cheeks painted with a bright shade of pink. “You’re not joking, right?”

“No,” you stammered. “Why would I joke about this?”

He came to a stoplight and he turned to you. “Because I’ve been imagining this moment for months now and now that it’s finally happened, it doesn’t feel real.” He breathed out a short laugh, completely in awe. “If you’re joking, I’m kicking you out of my car. Please tell me you’re not.”

“Aether, I promise I’m not joking,” you said, smiling as you watched him exhale an exasperated sigh. “If you don’t feel the same-”

“Did you hear nothing I just said?” Aether reached over and grabbed your hand, giving it a tight squeeze. “I’ve probably had the biggest crush on you for years, but I was always too scared to say anything because I thought you didn’t feel the same. Please pinch me because this doesn’t feel real at all.”

Giggling, you gave him a little pinch on his arm only to get an excited squeal from him.

  • Rest assured that when Lumine came home and found that both of you had ditched her return home to go on a date at the park, she was excited both of had finally come clean about your feelings for each other.
  • Though, she was a little bitter at the fact that you two did it when she wasn’t there.
  • Oh well. She’ll be there for the first kiss with a multitude of teases for the both of you.

Albedo:

  • It was the week of your graduation and you two didn’t have to come in for any classes this week since they were all finished up last week. With all the spare time in between graduation rehearsal and superlative pictures, you two hung out.
  • Quick bonus: you two got voted most likely to succeed out of the class and for the picture that would go in the yearbook, Albedo insisted on giving you a piggy-back ride.
  • Another quick bonus: you two were both Valedictorian and you two were totally stoked to share that title with each other.
  • After you had taken your superlative pictures that day, Albedo had invited you over to his house for the day. You couldn’t refuse – especially since Klee left school early with you two.

“Big sister Y/N, you should come swim with me!” Klee begged, grabbing a hold of you hand as she jumped up and down once you arrived at his house.

“Okay, okay,” you agreed. “You’re lucky your brother told me you had been wanting to swim with me or else I would’ve left without my bathing suit.”

Klee was so happy you’d be joining her – she absolutely adored you (as did her older brother). That was one of the reasons Albedo had invited you over since the little girl had been moping around the house since she hadn’t seen you in a hot minute. After she had run off upstairs to get her swimsuit, Albedo nodded his head down the stairs where his room was. “You can go change in my room, if you want. Excuse the mess. I’ve uh, been putting off the laundry.”

You rolled your eyes, smiling a bit. “Of course you have. Every time I come over, your mom is getting onto you for it.” You turned to leave before you gasped and reached into your bag. “Hey, I just finished this book the other day and I thought you’d like it. It’s a bit different than my normal recommendations, but you need some poetry in your life.”

It was his turn to roll his eyes, as he wasn’t exactly thrilled at the idea of reading poetry. “Just set it down on my desk when you’re down there,” he told you, before heading off upstairs to help Klee change.

  • Once you were changed into your bikini, you kinda felt a little awkward as you viewed yourself in the mirror. This wouldn’t be the first time Albedo’s seen you in a bathing suit; after all, this wasn’t the first time you’ve hung out at his place to swim with Klee.
  • But this was the first time you’ve been in a bathing suit around him after you’ve realized you’ve had a crush on him.
  • It hadn’t been a week since prom night. While you had slow danced with your date to that old love song from years ago, you had noticed how quickly your heart began to beat when he placed his hands on your back to hold you close. You had just brushed it off as not being used to being so close to someone like this, but the next morning when you woke up in your bed with his arm draped lazily over your waist as he slept peacefully beside you, you realized that you felt more for him than you thought you did.
  • That’s why you felt so self-conscious now. And you knew Albedo was one of the last people to judge someone for their looks. Heck, you could probably show up to graduation in a couple days with a hot dog costume on and he probably wouldn’t even notice. He just wasn’t like that.
  • A polite knock on the door interrupted your thoughts. “Big sister, are you ready?”
  • Physically, yes. Mentally, definitely not.
  • Of course, you should’ve known that as soon as you walked outside with your best friend’s little sister, you’d be bombarded with Albedo holding some sunscreen.
  • “But it’s gross,” Klee whined. “It makes me sticky.”
  • “You know mom will get upset if you get burned, though,” he chuckled, starting to spray the girl down as she reluctantly held her arms out to the side.
  • As soon as Albedo stepped away from her, Klee ran off toward the pool, not wanting to be subjected to any more sunscreen, but now it was your turn.
  • “Surely, you’ll let me go without it, right?” you asked, batting your eyelashes at him.
  • “You’re not getting away from me that easily,” Albedo smirked, shaking the sunscreen bottle teasingly.
  • “But, please, Mr. Albedo,” you jokingly pleaded, holding your hands out in front of you in a prayer. “I am putting myself in this position, and you have to accept that.”
  • He didn’t respond, and just watched your little show with a deadly smirk and a raised eyebrow. You had to admit – any other time this would’ve been just simply fun and play, but now that you knew that deep down you loved him more than just a friend did, you couldn’t help but blush.
  • The same could be said for him, too. You two have had this little interaction several time in which he’d spray you down with sunscreen after you told him you didn’t want any. Now, though, he was sure if any of your classmates were here, they’d be yelling at you two to stop flirting.
  • No matter how hard he tried to act like he had all the years before this, Albedo couldn’t help but test how much he could say subtle, flirty comments before you noticed.
  • Too bad you were just a bit more oblivious than he thought you were.
  • Later that night, though, after you had left and Klee was snug in bed asleep, Albedo found the poetry book you had set down on the desk in his room. He always did his reading at night, in bed, with only the golden glow from his bedside lamp to illuminate the pages in front of him.
  • Although, he still wasn’t sure about this new reading assignment of his. He had read poems before, sure, but they never really inspired him or begged him to keep reading. But, if you insisted, he’d read it.
  • Albedo always started with taking your notes out and skimming over them to get a feel before diving into the book’s content. He found his mind wandering tonight, though, as he read – a sign he wasn’t too invested in the content.
  • He thought of the day with you and his little sister – how kind you always were with her and how the sun was shining on you just right to make his heart skip a beat every time he looked at you. He thought of how Klee asked him at dinner if he liked you and how his mom insisted that he did even though he scoffed and explained that you were nothing more than a good friend.
  • The amused gazes of his mom and sister burned into his brain and he wondered if it was that obvious.
  • Apparently it was to everyone else except you, but that was good right?
  • As Albedo flipped through the pages of heart-felt poetry, he was interrupted when a folded piece of notebook paper fell out into his lap. Intrigued, he sat the book down and opened it up, seeing that it was a letter addressed to him.

Dear Albedo,

I’m never going to give this to you, since I’d be too embarrassed to have you know all of this, but my motto has always been to not bottle feelings up. So, here I am, writing a letter to you that you won’t ever read to hopefully get all these feelings I have for you out on paper before I accidently let it slip in person and make a fool of myself.

  • He felt bad for reading it since you obviously didn’t want him to, but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the page in front of him. His eyes darted across the page as he took in every word you had written. And upon reading the words “I love you” printed in your own unique font, he understood that he was holding your confession.
  • Now this was a surprise.
  • He picked up the book and glanced at the poem that had been marked and read over it. After reading through it a couple times, he realized it was a poem written to the author’s lover, or at least that’s what it seemed like. He couldn’t help but wonder if upon reading this, you thought of him and were driven to write a letter about your crush on him.
  • And once he finished your confession letter, he read it over and over and over again, soaking up every word you had written. It offered him a sense of peace, knowing that he wasn’t just some love sick boy crushing a girl that seemed way too out of his league.

Albedo didn’t care if it was midnight, he was calling you. When you picked up, he immediately asked you about your letter. “My letter?” you asked, clueless. “You mean my notes? I’m sorry if you can’t read them. My handwriting at night isn’t the greatest, for some reason.”

“No, not your notes. Your notes are fine,” he stated. “I’m talking about your letter.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about, Albedo,” you responded. “What was it about?”

“Me,” he said and the reality of the situation caused him to blush ten times more than he ever had before.

It clicked then, and he heard you gasp before murmuring an “oh no” under your breath. “Oh, God, Albedo.” That’s all you said for a moment before you sighed. “I’m sorry. I totally forgot I had left that in there. I… I’m so sorry. That was probably so awkward for you to read. I’m such an embarrassment, geez.”

“No, no,” he interrupted. “It was actually a little… comforting.”

“Comforting?” you echoed in disbelief.

“I mean, it’s comforting knowing that you feel the same away about me that I do about you,” he said, only to hear silence in return.

After a moment of waiting for you to respond, he decided he should continue. “This whole time I thought I just really liked you because you were my best friend and had been since freshman year, but on the way to your house after prom, I was wondering if you liked me the way I liked you – as more than just a friend.”

“For the longest time, I have,” you responded, a little breathless. “Still, I wish you could’ve found out in a better way than a sappy love letter I wrote to you at three in the morning.”

Albedo chuckled. “I liked finding out this way, though. It’s very endearing.”

  • You two probably talked the whole night away, falling asleep on call with each other and waking up to see that your phone was still on and that the call time was well over a few hours. You heard humming in the background and you called out his name, only to hear his little sister.
  • “Good morning, big sister!” she giggled. “Albedo is writing a letter to you-”
  • “Klee! I told you not to say anything!”
  • “Oh, oopsie! Albedo is not writing a letter to you!”

Diluc:

  • It was bound to happen. As senior year inched closer and closer to being said and done, the senior class at your school was caving in on itself, becoming divided as all of you were becoming tired of each other after spending literal years seeing the same faces every single day.
  • Of course, you and Diluc were still besties, but it didn’t stop you two from becoming a little aggravated with others.
  • You weren’t too bothered with anyone else, but Diluc certainly had a few issues with a certain someone. And, since you were his best friend, you automatically had issues with them, too. That’s just how besties work, ya know.
  • This certain someone was none other than Kaeya Alberich, the class heartthrob with blue hair and a devilish smile.
  • Not even you had been immune to his charms. Little elementary school you definitely fawned over him since you two sat by each other in the first grade and for the next couple years, you adored him.
  • And then in the fourth grade on Valentine’s Day when everyone exchanged little cards and candies with each other, he gave everyone something except you.
  • Broke your little fourth grade heart right in two.
  • You two were just acquaintances now; sometimes you’d be stuck with him as partners in anatomy class when your teacher paired students up to study. But that’s not important
  • (Well, it was to Diluc because he didn’t like Kaeya for some odd reason and he just knew he’d say some sly remark to you since it was anatomy class, for goodness’s sake.)
  • However, you two sat at the table behind the blue-haired menace in your calculus class. The class had finished for the year, so it was basically a study hall now, but most of the students spent the time talking to their friends, instead.
  • You were just trying to finish up some physics homework, Diluc’s page beside yours as you tried to figure out what you did wrong on a couple when you heard Diluc raise his voice slightly as he spoke to the one sitting in front of him.

You looked up timidly from your work to see Kaeya giving Diluc an fake and obviously malicious smile while the red-head returned it with a tight-lipped frown. “What’s the problem?” Kaeya asked him. “That a sensitive topic for you?”

You hadn’t been paying attention to anything the two were saying to each other, but from the expression on your friend’s face told you that it wasn’t exactly a nice conversation. You had rarely seen Diluc get angry – sure, he’d get disappointed or upset from time to time, but never angry.

“I’m sure your situation is no different than mine,” Diluc said, his tone back to normal but you could tell something was wrong.

Kaeya shrugged. “Maybe. But at least I know my mother died from sickness as opposed to yours, who just left.”

You noticed Diluc visibly tense and you decided to step in. He never talked about his mother, since it was a sensitive topic to both him and his dad, so you knew how hard it was for him to hear words like this. “Hey, maybe you should argue about something else, instead. Let’s not get too personal, okay?”

Kaeya’s piercing blue eyes drifted toward you and he gave you a little smirk before returning his gaze to Diluc who was this close to decking him. “Can’t stick up for yourself, either, huh? Have to get your little guard dog to?”

Before Diluc could lunge forward and nail the boy in front of him in the nose, a (F/C) pencil pouch did the work for him. Both boys looked at you in total shock as you pointed an accusing finger at Kaeya. “Don’t talk to me or my future husband like that ever again!”

  • Of course, it was no secret your pencil pouch was basically a survival pack for you. With three calculators stuffed inside since you were “just that bad at math” with dozens of pencils and pens, complete with a pair of scissors, your pencil pouch could do some serious damage is used correctly.
  • And judging from Kaeya’s look of disbelief as he noticed a crimson liquid on his fingers after holding his nose, you knew exactly how to use it.
  • Unfortunately, your teacher had noticed the altercation and told you to meet her in the hallway. Yeah, you weren’t getting out of this one too easily, even if it was the end of the year.
  • Diluc watched as Kaeya turned to him with a bloody nose, but his teasing gaze was still there. “Looks like you got yourself a keeper, future husband.
  • Your best friend just sat there, his red eyes wide as he replayed your words in his head on an endless loop.
  • Future husband?
  • Sure, friends in movies joke about stuff like this, but you never did and neither did he. This was new to him and even though he had finally come to terms with his feelings for you, it felt odd to hear you say something like that.
  • Though, he could feel his face heat up the more he thought about it. Just because it was odd to hear you say that, doesn’t mean he didn’t like hearing it.
  • In fact, he kind of wanted to hear you say it again.
  • He finally caught back up to you after class and was bummed to hear you share the bad news – you had after school detention the rest of the week. “It was for a good cause,” you snickered, letting him walk you to your next class. It was obvious you weren’t too upset about the whole ordeal.
  • “I’ll wait around for you,” Diluc promised. “So you don’t have to go home alone.”
  • “You don’t have to,” you dismissed, even though you knew that once he set his mind to something, nothing could change it.
  • All day, though, Diluc thought about what you had said. It’s all he could think about, actually.
  • Since that day at the lake, he had been telling himself to suck it up and gather the courage to tell you that he liked you more than a friend. He was soft-spoken when it came to such tender moments like this, so he found himself practicing in front of the mirror after he took a shower to make sure that when he finally gathered the courage to tell you exactly how he felt, he wouldn’t stutter or choke on his words.
  • He came super close one night. You were spending the night since your parents were out of town and Diluc’s dad was worried you wouldn’t take care of yourself if you were home alone. You had taken up temporary residence in the Ragnvindr household for a couple nights already, sleeping snuggly in the guest bedroom.
  • Though one night when Diluc’s dad was still out of the house busy with work, Diluc had convinced you to come stay in his room for the night like a sleepover. He had it all planned out, but before he could pour his heart out to you, you feel asleep under his pile of blankets.
  • If you hadn’t been there, he would’ve screamed into his pillow to unleash all the frustration he was experiencing, but he didn’t want to wake you up.
  • How dare you fall asleep on him when he was getting ready to tell you he loved you with all his heart? The absolute disgrace!
  • Unfortunately, Diluc hadn’t gathered the courage since but apparently, he didn’t have to. With your outburst back in calculus, he felt reassured that you felt the same way.
  • At least, he hoped you did. If you didn’t and you just said that to play with his heart strings, he didn’t know what he’d do.
  • Scream into his pillow for real this time, probably.

The clock struck 4:30 and Diluc heard footsteps scampering down the hallway toward his direction. He glanced up and felt a small smile appear on his face when he saw you approaching the lobby where he waited for you.

“There’s my little troublemaker,” Diluc chuckled, standing up to greet you once you came close enough. At his words, you smiled cheekily, posing cutely as if basking in your new title.

“My first time in detention, ever!” you giggled. “I’m such a bad girl, aren’t I? Too bad I hang out with a goody-two-shoes that keeps me out of trouble.”

Diluc took your backpack from you before you walked out of the school and into the parking lot. It was almost empty – just you two’s cars at the very end and a couple of teacher’s vehicles were present. “Have fun?”

You rolled your eyes. “I didn’t do anything. It was just me and a couple middle schoolers. They kept getting in trouble for talking.”

“As expected,” he murmured. “Um, thanks for helping out earlier today. With Kaeya.”

“Eh, it was nothing, really. I gotta stick up for my bestie.” You felt yourself blush a little at the memory. You hadn’t intended to say the whole future husband bit and you couldn’t help but feel super embarrassed every time you thought about it. You figured Diluc didn’t feel the same way about you as you did for him. “Look, I’m sorry-”

“Future husband, huh?” he interjected and part of you felt that it was on purpose. “What was that supposed to mean?”

You stopped walking and Diluc took a couple steps forward before turning around to face you. “Listen, sir, I didn’t get detention just for you to be so oblivious about how I feel about you.”

You watched as his cheeks turned red and he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “You really… think about me like that?” Upon seeing you nod your head, he exhaled a sigh of relief. “I… I’m afraid you’ve left me speechless.”

A look of worry came over your face. Oh, God, he didn’t feel the same, did he? You were just his friend, nothing more. You should’ve known. An overwhelming sense of guilt came over you and you couldn’t help but feel mortified. “Diluc, I’m so sorry-”

Your voice fell silent as he walked back toward you and everything moved in slow motion around you. As soon as he was close enough, he placed two fingers underneath your chin, titling your head upwards to look at him before he planted a soft, gentle kiss on your cheek. “Well, Y/N, no future husband is complete without his future wife, hm?”

  • If lightning struck you down right then and there, you would’ve died happy.
  • Luckily, though, no freak accident happened and you two walked back to your cars, faces painted with blush as your fingers were intertwined with each other’s.
  • Even though Diluc despised Kaeya Alberich with a passion, he couldn’t help but send a telepathic thank you to him as he helped you place your belongings in your backseat because without him, you wouldn’t have come clean about your feelings toward him. And without that, Diluc probably wouldn’t ever had built up the courage to tell you how he felt, either.

Venti:

  • I really think that even though Venti realized he thought of you as being more than just a best friend, he’d still act the same around you.
  • He wouldn’t try to sprinkle flirty comments into your daily interactions – at least, not anymore than the normal amount
  • He wouldn’t get super awkward or embarrassed around you, either. You had been besties for a hot minute, so what he had feelings for you? That doesn’t mean he should change how he acts around you.
  • He wouldn’t pressure you to feel the same way or even drop hints about how he really felt because he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable or ruin your friendship because that came first.
  • To Venti, he could live the rest of his life with his crush on you being a secret if that meant you two could be best friends forever and he’d be totally fine.
  • Now, he’d prefer to not do that since he would think it’d be just neat if you reciprocated his feelings. If you didn’t though, he wouldn’t hate you or get upset.
  • Unbeknownst to him, though, you did return his feelings!
  • They had been there a long while, like his, and you found it easy to hide them away, too.
  • Though, you kind of hated it because it was such a pain to want to smack him across the face and tell him you loved him with all your heart but you knew you couldn’t do that without causing some sort of rift between you two.
  • You two were just really good at keeping your feelings a secret when it came to keeping your friendship intact, even though there was no reason to worry in the first place.
  • But as the days of senior year ticked by a lot faster than you anticipated them to, you realized that maybe time was running out to confess your feelings.
  • If there was one thing you learned from Venti, it was that you didn’t want to live life with any regrets, whatever those might be.
  • And you didn’t want to be years older and regret not telling your best friend how you really felt about him, cause then it might be too late.
  • So here you were, suggesting an innocent tiktok challenge to him in the car one day after a long day together of just hanging out.

If there was anyone willing to participate in a tiktok challenge with you, it was Venti. First of all, he could never pass up a challenge of any kind and second, he’d never say no to anything you’d suggest. But as soon as you told him what the whole challenge was, he wondered if he was in over his head a little. Sure, it was just a harmless little “how close can you get to your best friend without kissing them” stunt, but he himself had been planning to make a move on you recently. He wasn’t exactly sure if he’d be able to stop himself from giving you just an itty bitty kiss on the lips.

The world was dark around you outside the car and the only light on in Venti’s car was the golden interior light above you two. Neither of you wanted to go home yet, so you were still in the empty mall parking lot. You two were definitely getting scolded for staying out so late. You figured Venti would have scoffed at your silly idea, but when he enthusiastically agreed to it, you felt your heartbeat quicken. You had secretly hoped that he would have said no to save you from embarrassing yourself so you could think of a different idea to express to him your feelings, but you were stuck now, it seemed. So, as a love song of sorts played from your phone as it captured everything unfolding between you two, you couldn’t help but feel your whole body blush.

You two started out with holding hands. His slender fingers held yours gently and his thumbs rubbed your knuckles comfortingly. The whole point of the challenge was to get close, so with every second, you two would shift to close the gap between you. You’d lean forward and Venti would follow suit; he’d place his hand on the back of your head to pull just a bit closer; you’d tilt your head to get a better angle as if you really were about to kiss. Your heartbeat pounded in your ears as you tried to fixate on anything but the obvious tension between the two of you. How his car smelled vaguely like cheap wine and apples, the bracelet you had made him junior year was still hanging from the rearview mirror, his backseat was littered with old school papers he “forgot” to turn in. You blinked, bringing your eyes back to meet Venti’s, but he wasn’t looking at you anymore. His mischievous smile was gone and neither of you were quietly giggling at the situation anymore. You realized his eyes were on your lips and that’s when reality struck. It was now or never, right?

As soon as the song’s beat dropped, your lips caught his and it took both of you by surprise. Before you could pull away and run away from this embarrassing scenario you had dragged him into, he kissed back as if he had been waiting to do this for ages. He kissed you like he meant it and everything else melted away around you. It was just you and your best friend, who, hopefully, realized how you really felt.

  • The moments afterward were bit awkward. The video was over and your phone laid on top of the dash beside his, abandoned and long forgotten. The kiss hadn’t lasted long, just a few seconds – short and sweet.
  • You bit your lip, eyeing the quiet world outside the car window to avoid making eye contact with Venti who sat in the driver’s seat beside you.
  • He was staring you down, as you had left him in the middle of a captivating story and he had been hanging on your every word, waiting for you to finish.
  • To be honest, he really felt like you had.
  • Was that just… a joke?
  • You kissed and he obviously kissed you back – he had pulled you as close to him as he could and kissed you as hard as he allowed himself to for your first kiss.
  • But now you’re just sitting there… acting like nothing happened.
  • You had never angered him before – never. He had never been upset with you or disappointed. Those times you had pushed him away because you weren’t in the right headspace – he was always there for you, waiting for you to come back.
  • He couldn’t help but feel a little… annoyed, though.
  • It was obvious something was wrong when he abruptly started his car and drove out of the parking lot without saying a word.

As you watched the streetlights pass by you in a blur, you gulped and finally turned to face your friend. “Venti, I’m sorry. I-”

“For what?” he asked, his tone of voice a little bitter.

Your brows furrowed. You messed up, didn’t you? God, you were so stupid. How could you have thought this was a good idea? “I shouldn’t have done that. I should’ve known you didn’t feel the same way. I’m sorry.”

This had Venti a little intrigued. Did you really feel the same way? Or were just playing with him? “What do you mean ‘feel the same way?’”

You sighed and fidgeted with the hem of the skirt you wore. You really thought you two could just kiss and not have any lingering questions afterward? It became blaringly obvious you didn’t think any of this through. “I… really like you. More than just a friend should. More than a best friend, at that. And after all these years of knowing you, I’ve decided that I want to live life with no regrets, so I wanted to tell you – err, show you, how I really felt about you. I guess… I guess I’ll still regret this, though.”

If Venti wasn’t driving down the highway at the moment toward your house, he’d had lunged over to your side of the car and kissed every inch of your face. It felt like an enormous weight had been lifted off his shoulders – you felt the same way he felt about you, your little “challenge” wasn’t just a stunt, and that kiss wasn’t a joke, but a real, genuine kiss. “Why would this be something you regret?” he asked, deciding to play this out just a little longer.

“Because you obviously don’t feel the same and now things will be awkward between us. The exact opposite of what I wanted to happen happened and all because I didn’t think any of this through.” He peeked over at you to see you wipe at your eyes. You really put your heart out on the line for him?

He couldn’t help but chuckle. “Well, Y/N, I don’t regret this at all, if you ask me. In fact, I’m quite delighted to know that the feelings are mutual.”

“M-mutual?” you repeated, looking at him with disbelief written all over your face. The corners of your eyes were wet, and he felt a little upset that he hadn’t taken things into his own hands. Maybe you wouldn’t have cried, then.

“Yeah! Although, I’m not exactly too enthused with you beating me to the punch on this,” he pouted. He reached over and took your hand into his, bringing it to his lips and planting a soft kiss on the back of your palm. “At least I can be proud of the fact that I, little ole me, was your first kiss.”

  • You felt a lot better knowing that you didn’t make a stupid move.
  • However, you were unsure if you were still aware of the consequences of your actions.
  • Especially when you woke up to rocks hitting your window and Venti holding his phone high into the air playing a love song from when your parents were young.
  • You wouldn’t trade it for the world, though.
  • And if you asked him, he’d say the same. You were honestly the best thing to ever happen to him and knowing that he could kiss you now??
  • Sure, he could’ve kissed you before if he really wanted but he didn’t want anything to be awkward between you two.
  • But now??
  • You aren’t safe anymore, if that’s what you’re wondering.
  • Venti will find you and he will kiss you and you will be happy about it, or else.
